Best Drugstore Lipsticks for Summer 2017 – Pixi Beauty Gel Tint and Silk Gloss Review

What are the best drugstore lipsticks for summer 2017? Pixi Beauty’s Gel Tint and Silk Gloss. It was love at first swatch. Don’t believe me? Just read this review.

Lip gloss is definitely making a comeback this summer after the matte lipstick trend. If you’re looking for a lip product that stays on all day and doesn’t dry out your lips, you’re in for a treat. Pixi’s Gel Tint and Silk Gloss duos are

  • long-lasting,
  • hydrating,
  • nourishing,
  • comfortable,
  • and sheer!

Plus, they’re paraben free and not tested on animals. It’s no surprise they have quickly become my top lip products for summer. It’s all about a quick, natural, no-makeup makeup look.

If Harry Potter went to school for makeup, this would be his wand.

shades

Pixi’s Gel Tint and Silk Gloss duos come in three different shade ranges,

  • neutral,
  • pink,
  • and red.

You can wear the tint and gloss separately or together. While the colors can look vibrant and intimidating in the tube, I promise you the formula is sheer and gives your lips a nice, natural looking tint.

All my nude lip enthusiasts, this one’s for you. BerryTint and SweetGloss enhances your natural lip color and gives you just the right amount of pigmentation for an everyday look. The BerryTint is the most sheer out of all the tints, making it perfect for minimal makeup days. I love pairing this lip with a nude eyeshadow and mascara.

PinkTint and PrettyGloss is summer in a tube. Look at it. It’s beautiful. The pink tint is a much more wearable version of a hot pink lipstick, while the gloss is an almost clear, light pink shade with small, pink shimmer. The shimmer is not distracting, as it is hardly noticeable and simply gives your lips some extra shine. I’m into it.

At first, I thought BeachTint and FreshGloss would be my least favorite because it looks like a deep brown and vibrant orange combo. So out of my comfort zone. However, on the lips, BeachTint develops into a beautiful crimson red, which is amplified by the sheer orange gloss. It’s officially my favorite duo and go-to red lip color!

Swatches

These are all one swipe swatches, except for BerryTint, which I added an extra swipe to for more pigmentation. I love that the tints dry down within minutes because I can quickly go over them with gloss and complete my look.

For the best even tint coverage on your lips,

  • apply the tint to your lips,
  • press them together,
  • then use the applicator to swipe the tint from the outer part of your lips toward the inner part of your lips.

Otherwise, you’ll end up with a darker line on the outer part of your lips, similar to the darker outer lines in the swatches. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as it ends up looking like natural lip liner. It all comes down to preference.

Speaking of…

Applicators

Both sides of the duo come with a flat doe-foot applicator aka those flat, long, skinny ones. While I prefer using a regular doe-foot applicator (you know, those ones with a dip at the tip) because they give me more precision, I find that the flat doe-foot applicator works just fine and is more forgiving since the tint and gloss are sheer.

Is it really long-lasting?

By itself, the tint is long-lasting while the gloss is hydrating and nourishing, as it is infused with jojoba. I’m not kidding when I say the tint lasts all day. You can swipe you finger over it and the color won’t transfer. See it for yourself in my video below.

I’ve been trying these out the past week and the tint stayed on even after I ate a burger and had drinks. Is that impressive or what?!

Of course, the gloss is going to come off whenever you eat or drink. You can always reapply or, my personal favorite, let the tint give your lips a natural stained effect throughout the day.

How do I take it off?

To remove the Gel Tint and Silk Gloss, gently rub a lip wipe or makeup remover on your lips. If you’re used to wearing mattes, I’m sure you’ve experienced harshly scrubbing your lips trying to get the color off. You’ll be happy to know this Pixi product is the complete opposite of that.

Are they scented?

The tints and glosses have a fresh mint scent and cooling effect when applied to the lips. The sensation feels so nice. The smell isn’t overpowering and fades within minutes, so it’s not headache-inducing. This is a major plus for someone like me who is prone to migraines and sensitive to smell.

Is it worth it?

Each duo comes with

  • one .11 oz tube of lip tint,
  • one .11 oz tube of gloss,
  • and retails for $12.

Compared to Pixi’s LipLift Max Lip Gloss, which has .09 oz of product for $14, the Gel Tint and Silk Gloss is a much better deal as you’re getting more than twice the amount for less. If you haven’t tried Pixi yet, now is the time.

Where can I buy them?

You can purchase the Gel Tint and Silk Gloss either directly from Pixi Beauty’s website or online and in-store from Target.
